UPDATE: Schrock Ignores Past Sexual Liaisons With Men, Casts Vote for Federal Marriage Amendment
In a stunning rebuke to the men he has had sexual relationships with, known adulterer, Rep. Edward L. Schrock has voted to amend the US Constitution in an effort to restrict rights for gay and lesbian Americans.
Congressman Edward L. Schrock, a known ADULTERER and the only Congressman known to have committed felonious activity in the Commonwealth of Virginia has caved to pressure from the radical right in casting a vote to amend the US Constitution to prohibit lesbian and gay marriage and to invalidate state's attempts to add civil unions for same gender couples.
It's quite surprising to me that a man who had such little disregard for his own wife would show his hypocrisy to the entire nation in the waning days of his lame duck post in Congress...But you know, with the way my incoming mail looks...Hypocrisy seems to be the order of the day for many of these so called "Representatives."
Because Congressman Schrock's office has continued to stonewall (hmmm...Interesting word there) on the accuracy of the initial audio posts, blogACTIVE.com is now providing a complete set of 7 audio recordings of the Congressman trolling for sex with men in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
In a brazen slap at the institution of marriage, Schrock goes so far on the recordings to inform those he is seeking sex with that he is, in fact, married. I guess these tapes leave only one question unanswered: If the US Constitution had an amendment as supported by Schrock in the House vote today, would he have been any less likely to ignore his marriage vows and ignore his Baptist Church's teachings in his quest for quick, no-strings sex? I think not. Perhaps during his few short weeks in Congress, Schrock should consider introducing an amendment to prohibit adultery.

TAKE ACTION: The Original GURLEY MAN Exposed in High Power job at RNC!
Lately, I never know what will happen when I call one of these gays responsible for gay bashing. But much to my surprise, Daniel Gurley, the NUMBER TWO POLITICAL OPERATIVE at the REPUBLICAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE completely confirmed for me on the phone that yes, he's gay. Now, I know some readers have a tough time connecting the guy who manages all the money to the political hate...but could it be any clearer in this case? This man is paid, blogACTIVE readers, to supervise campaigns in the field and what a field day against gays he has been having! Unreal! HISTORIC MOMENT: Outing campaign levels the field... First all GLBT Race in American History!
The state of California is once again making history in the struggle for gay and lesbian equality. The U.S. House race in the state's 26th district is the first time in American history that both major political parties are fielding out gay or lesbian candidates. Cynthia Matthews (D) has been out and in a loving relationship with her partner of eleven years, while incumbent David Dreier (R) was recently outed in the LA Weekly and will be the subject of a Hustler Magazine article due out this fall.

In a surprising twist to an already unusual California congressional race, the Democratic challenger to incumbent Republican Congressman David Dreier has told RAW STORY that she is a lesbian, and has made a series of conditional statements rebuking Dreier’s position on gay issues while concurrently questioning the payment arrangements with his chief of staff Brad Smith.Her statement makes this the first known time in history an openly gay candidate has run against another candidate also believed to be gay. The L.A. Times, presented with this information, has said they are not planning a story.
Democrat Cynthia Matthews, who has not kept her sexuality secret from the press, said Saturday that she was proud of her relationship with her same-sex partner.
“I have been in an eleven year relationship with my partner,” Matthews said, “and refuse to run for office if I would be required to relegate my partner to the closet.”

ACTION: Tell the RNC Leadership that gay bashing must stop. Tell Gay CFO/Dir of Admin JAY BANNING to STOP THE BASHING!
It's just unbelievable to me that a gay man, Jay Banning, can serve as the CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER and DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION of the Republican National Committee at the same time that the RNC prints and distributes blatantly homophobic materials in swing states. TAKE ACTION: Rep. David Dreier is Outed...Latest Roy Cohn Award Winner refuses to answer developing questions. Papers involved in "cover-up"
Poor David Dreier. He spent sooooo many years hiding his gay life from the radical right and just a few years after he attains the Chairmanship of the powerful House Rules Committee -- the youngest person ever to do so, and perhaps the first gay man -- is now: BUSTED!
If you live in Washington, you've probably have already read Kitty Kelley's new book on the Bush clan,The Family. It shows that the President's mommy was not as sharp as some might have thought. On page 491 Barbara Bush laments that her daughter's "relationship" with David Dreier is not going anywhere. Ms. Kelley, who is always proven right in the end, quotes Bar as saying that Dreier "Never laid a hand on her." Hmmmm... David "dated" Bo Derek too and that seemed to fizzle out. The real question on the minds of insiders in Washington is how did Dreier's Chief of Staff, Brad Smith, feel about all of this?

I have not the slightest doubt that the outing campaign initiated by Mike Rogers' blogactive.com and supported by Raw Story's reporting is accurate in exposing Dreier. I first heard that Dreier was gay back when he first came to Congress over two decades ago and I was Washington correspondent for New York Magazine--in those days, Dreier was much more active on the gay social scene than he was later as he mounted the Republican food chain. Moreover, in the course of reporting this story, I talked to a gay Member of Congress who has observed Dreier in gay behavior and is 100% "sure," as this member told me, that Dreier is gay. And, clearly, Dreier's demagogic political homophobia justifies reporting the outing campaign targeting him.

The mainstream press continues to deny that they had any hand in helping keep Dreier's secret from the public. Hmmmm... While the independent press, Low Magazine, wrote the piece on Dreier in 1997! Yet no local daily has covered the fact that Dreier is a homophobe and gay. Could it be that the paper did not know? Could there be a cover-up? Were reporters told what they could, and could not, ask Rep. Dreier?

BREAKING NEWS: Boifromtroy declares Dreier's sexuality open secret in Cali district!
What a week! I want to get this up as soon as soon as possible... And congratulations to the Boifromtroy for outing David Dreier. As you know from the previous entries here, I have a lot of questions about Dreier -- espeically about his DC living arrangements...and the fact that he refused to even say he was a straight man when asked on radio.
The Boi From Troy declares the Congressman's sexual orientation an "open secret" around Dreier's California Congressional District...And who better to break the news than the web's number one gay conservative blogger. Congrats Troy! We are glad to see you've come to see the value in calling out gay legislators, especially the kind with a 92% approval of the Christian Coalition!
I don't know what evidence Boifromtroy has, and some of the bits of his article are wrong...I never pitched the Dreier story to national -- or local -- media. But look for my update and notes soon.

ACTION: Tell Rep. David Dreier to speak OUT! -- Hustler magazine to run expose!

Well, Hustler magazine is trying to get Rep. David Dreier to speak out. Here's a link to an article by John Byrne and a letter that Hustler Features Editor Mark Cromer wrote to the Congressman yesterday.
ACTION ITEM:
Click here to ask Brad Smith of Congressman Dreier's office to stand up and speak out about the privacy we so strongly desire in the gay community. Gay and lesbian citizens want to hear David Dreier's justification for voting the Defense of Marriage Act and the Marriage Protection Act.
Also, be sure to thank the Congressman through your note to Brad for volunteering to send his own kids to Iraq on the Bill Maher Show a few weeks ago...only problem is this, David Dreier has no kids to send anywhere, let alone into the middle of Iraq. Well, Hustler magazine is trying to get Rep. David Dreier to speak out. Here's a link to an article by John Byrne and a letter that Hustler Features Editor Mark Cromer wrote to the Congressman yesterday.
ACTION ITEM:
Click here to ask Brad Smith of Congressman Dreier's office to stand up and speak out about the privacy we so strongly desire in the gay community. Gay and lesbian citizens want to hear David Dreier's justification for voting the Defense of Marriage Act and the Marriage Protection Act.
Also, be sure to thank the Congressman through your note to Brad for volunteering to send his own kids to Iraq on the Bill Maher Show a few weeks ago...only problem is this, David Dreier has no kids to send anywhere, let alone into the middle of Iraq. First off, no new outing today. Many of you have asked "Who's next?" Well, it's not that simple. Every "i" must be dotted and every "t'" must be crossed before the site can go public with new ACTION items.
As for the campaign, we're getting ready to make more frequent posts and expose those in the government who work to hurt the gay community. John Aravosis, publisher of AmericaBlog.org put it best when he told the Los Angeles Times "They declared war, we're not going to respond with a hug."

If you had a chance to listen to The Sirius Satellite Network's OutQ Radio coverage during the Democratic or Republican Conventions you know that the team of Michelangelo Signorile, Corey Johnson and John McMullen offered up some of the most comprehensive convention coverage anywhere. I was glued to my web connection when Michelangelo announced that CONGRESSMAN DREIER would be on his show. As I was listening to the interview I was really hoping Michelangelo would ask the Congressman the question on so many minds. As usual, Michelangelo did not leave me disappointed.

Now, since I don't discriminate in my friendships, I happen to know a lot of straight people. Some of my closest friends are straight. I must say, Congressman Dreier's refusal to say he is heterosexual is the first time I can recall a man not acknowledging his own straightness when asked.
In the clip, Dreier assures OutQ listeners that he is "voting for all the American people." The voting scores of the Human Rights Campaign don't paint such a nice picture of his record. The Christian Coalition, on the other hand, gave Dreier a 92% rating in its last voter guide.

ACTION: Tell Schrock's Chief of Staff Tom Gordy: The time for an apology is now!
First the big news: a MONTH ago, John Byrne at Raw Story, the Liberal alternative news site to closet case and homophobe Matt Drudge, uncovered the Bush AWOL from the Guard story. My Boston sources tell me that the Boston Globe was handed this story by Raw Story a month ago and today's front page story is just as Raw Story presented it more than 30 days ago! Chalk up another one for the bloggers, folks!!
Now on to Schrock follow-up.
I had thought the Schrock matter was over, then I read an editorial in this last week's Washington Post. I wondered if the Post had bothered to listen to the audio on the site or why they didn't conduct testing on the files if they were not sure of their authenticity. After talking with others in the media, I was tipped off: "Well, Mike...there are folks close to Schrock who say the tapes are fakes." "Whoa!" I thought. "No Way!"
Wow. No proof? Once the audio file of Rep. Schrock (R-VA) went up, the right wing moved into "Immediate Discredit Mode" - The comments were amazing...I was practically accused of manufacturing the tapes myself. You can listen to this additional audio and make up your own mind:

1. In the first of these two tapes, Congressman Schrock speaks about the need to be discrete and he "can't emphasize that enough!" I bet! Since some of these recordings were made when Schrock was a candidate and some when he was a member of the House of Representatives, you would think he would not have been so INdiscrete! - These recordings were made in 2000 and 2001.Once you've listened to the audio files, check out this article (with audio and video of Rep. 2. In this recording, the Congressman assures listeners that he "works out religiously." Is this what is going on at the Atlantic Shores Baptist Church, in which Schrock touts his membership in on his website? Hmmmm.
