Hate exposed on rerun at 3am

L. GRAHAM: Here's my view of it, that the war on terror is really bigger than bin Laden. It's about religious extremism.Ya got that right Lindsay. So why not stand up against the religious extremism of Jim Demint? How can we expect to challenge the religious extremism of our enemy when you support the religious extremism of a US Senate Candidate. DeMint opposes ALL abortions....DeMint believes that single moms and gays and lesbians cannot be teachers...DeMint IS A RELIGIOUS EXTREMIST!

Senator, if moderation is good for the middle east, how about some in South Carolina?

Nation's Largest Gay Paper Covers Helms Granddaughter Story.

Some emails have asked me why Jennifer Knox? "Just because she is Jesse Helms' granddaughter?" asked one writer. Absolutely not. The other day, when I was asked the same question by Gay City News in NY, here's what I said:
This is where it all begins. No one starts off as a senator or congressman. What is important to realize is that Ms. Knox is a solid candidate for reporting even if she was not Mr. Helms’ granddaughter. She is running on the GOP ticket, with one of the most homophobic platforms in the nation. Her professional work for Mr. Helms and former Senator Lauch Faircloth qualify her case without question.
The Gay City News is America's largest circulating weekly gay paper.

If anyone knows of ANYONE running for ANY elected office on a platform that has sections like these below, PLEASE email tips@blogactive.com today!

Reminder...Here is the platform Knox is running on:
> We believe homosexuality is not normal and should not be established as an acceptable "alternative" lifestyle either in public education or in public policy

> We support efforts to: (1) restore the ban against known homosexuals in the military
Enough of them already. ENOUGH!

TAKE ACTION: blogACTIVE Awards first Dick & Mary Cheney Award to Jesse Helms and Jennifer Helms Knox!

If Dick Cheney is willing to sell his own daughter down the river for power, is it any wonder that Jennifer Helms Knox is willing to cover up who she is while running as the GOP candidate in North Carolina?

Earlier today blogACTIVE and RawStory reported on the granddaughter of Jesse Helms. While Jennifer is out to her family (except Jesse, of course) and friends, she continues to avoid all questions relating from the press.
Jennifer Helms Knox refuses to discuss the platform of her party!
Jennifer Helms Knox refuses to discuss her leadership role in managing racist and homophobic campaigns for Senator Jesse Helms!
Jennifer Helms Knox refuses to stand up to her own party when then mail flyers filled with hate and homophobia!
TAKE ACTION

Let the people of North Carolina and the country know that you are sick and tired of this hypocrisy.

Just click here to open an email to the press and others in the Raleigh area who need to know about this unacceptable double standard. Tell them how you feel about the North Carolina Republican Party Platform and how you feel about the mailing of homophobic ads against Julia Boseman. Copies of your letters will be sent to key GOP and Bush Campaign officials, media in the Raleigh area and Jennifer Helms Knox's campaign.

NC GOP Remains Mum on Anti Gay Flyers

HATE FLYERS - Click to enlarge in new window

While the North Carolina State GOP refuses to speak with blogACTIVe.com about lesbian Jennifer Helms Knox campaign on the GOP Ticket, here's what the same group has to say about out member of the gay and lesbian community, State Senate Candidate Julia Boseman.

blogACTIVE and RawStory.com exposed Jesse Helms' Granddaughter earlier today. Read the story here.

These pathetic gay-bashing homophobes have no shame in printing right on these ads who they are and what they stand for! They are against lesbians and gay men from living happy lives, yet they have no problem expecting candidates like Jennifer Helms Knox to hide their loving relationships in an effort to seize power!

Cathy Curtis, Co-Chair of Wilmington Stonewall Democrats and resident of the Wilmington area has told blogACTIVE.com, "The North Carolina Republican Party seems to have no problem with Republican gay candidates, but when an out Democrat is on the ballot -- all of a sudden 'we have a gay agenda!'"

Curtis went on to say, "It's my hope that with the truth out in the open, we can now put sexual orientation aside and discuss real issues that matter to real people, instead of creating false divisions."

According to a source in NC, the rumors about Helms' granddaughter have been around for years. The source went on to say they thought it was impossible for Knox to have been nominated on the ticket without party leaders' knowledge of her relationship.

This is hardly the first foray into the muddy waters of hatred by the state orgnaization built by Jesse Helms. Here are some quotes from the party platform:
4. We believe homosexuality is not normal and should not be established as an acceptable "alternative" lifestyle either in public education or in public policy. We do not believe public schools should be used to teach children that homosexuality is normal, and we do not believe that taxpayers should fund benefit plans for unmarried partners. We oppose special treatment by law based on nothing other than homosexual behavior or identity. We oppose actions, such as “marriage” or the adoption of children by same-sex couples, which attempt to legitimize and normalize homosexual relationships. We support the Defense of Marriage Act and will support a constitutional amendment to ensure that marriage is limited to the union of one man and one woman. We commend private organizations, such as the Boy Scouts, which defend moral decency and freedom according to their own well-established traditions and beliefs.

3. America's defense must come second to none. The Republican Party of North Carolina opposes any attempts to weaken our national defense. We support efforts to: (1) restore the ban against known homosexuals in the military

Not enough hatred? These folks would not even allow the Log Cabin Republicans to attend their convention. That's democracy?!
Log Cabin NC organizer and Executive Director-Development of Equality North Carolina, Ed Farthing purchased a table at the NC state convention on behalf of Log Cabin in early April. The state party, which had been soliciting party members to purchase tables at the convention, accepted the money and issued a table to Log Cabin. Just days before the convention, NC State GOP Chairman Ferrell Blount flip-flopped, returning the money, and sending a lengthy vitriolic letter informing Farthing that Log Cabin would not have a table at the convention.

McCRERY or McQUEERY?
blogACTIVE Reports, YOU Decide!

On Tuesday I promised you two posts today. I said that one of the posts would be an old story reprinted with a new opportunity to take action. Here is that story...

"How come you haven’t mentioned McCrery?” a friend asked the other day.

That’s how I first came to hear about Congressman James McCrery of Louisiana. I learned how McCrery’s hypocrisy was exposed was a dozen years ago, when Chris Bull, writing for The Advocate, laid out one of the most thoroughly reported examples of how gay men live double lives in and out of the Capitol’s halls of power.

After reading this story, I decided to take a look at Congressman McCrery’s voting record. Here are some of the votes he’s cast over the past since The Advocate article:

Marriage Protection Act…YES

Defense of Marriage Act…YES

Prohibit same sex couples from adopting in DC…YES

McCrery has been no friend to the AIDS Community either… Not only did he vote to strip $21 Million from Housing programs for people with AIDS, he also voted to permanently prohibit any federal funds from being used on needle exchange programs, even though they save lives!

Mr. Bull has continued to write for many different publications and he is currently Senior Political Correspondent at Gay.com, where he also pens his column, Bull's Eye. His reporting is among the finest in the country on issues of concern to our community. I recommend his work.

TAKE ACTION

A dozen years ago, as people read the article in The Advocate, they could write a letter to the editor or perhaps talk with friends about how pathetic these hypocrites are. That was then…this is now.

Please use the power of the web to click here and tell Jim McCrery what you feel about his past and how he leaves gay (or is it bisexual, Jim?) men like himself and the entire GLBT community behind when he denies his past an votes as he does. Your message will be sent to the entire staff of Rep. McCreary’s office and a host of newspapers in his home district (and a copy will be sent to blogACTIVE too).

Also…here’s a fun idea I thought of….hop on over to The Shreveport Times Forums in Louisiana and create a new post about McCrery…Let’s help educate our fellow citizens about this hypocrite!

If you'd like the entire article in PDF format, click here.

No, this is not one of the two.. I've always said he was gay, though.

Dapper Dresser, eh?

This is not one of the previously mentioned cases....but it sure is interesting!

In L.A. Weekly columnist Doug Ireland reports that a forthcoming book asserts the 16th President was gay.
[Author C.A.] Tripp also found, based on multiple historical accounts, that Lincoln attained puberty unusually early, by the age of 9 or 10 — early sexualization being a prime Kinsey indicator for same-sex proclivities. Even Lincoln’s stepmother admitted in a post-assassination interview that young Abe "never took much interest in the girls." And Tripp buttresses his findings that Lincoln was a same-sex lover with important new historical contributions.
No shock to me, really. I recall watching a PBS American Experience in which it was mentioned that Lincoln was emotionally distant from his parents...hmmm. It's no secret that Abe and Mary Todd's relationship was not overly intimate, they even had separate bedrooms in the White House. I have heard for years that Lincoln shared a bed for a number of years with Joshua Speed.

An important message about two upcoming items.

Greetings:

Earlier this year, in response to the unprecedented attacks on gay and lesbian Americans, I began blogACTIVE.com. Never before in American history have the personal and private lives of gay and lesbian citizens been dragged through the political mud in such a brazen effort to divert the electorate from important issues of the day. I had enough! Especially since I knew so much of it was coming from our own community members.

The site has been much more successful than I ever imagined and for that I thank those of you who sent notes and have supported this work. Your support along with the hundreds of tips sent to the email box has helped to make blogACTIVE so successful. THANK YOU!

The site has exposed some of the most blatant cases of self-hating homophobes. After being exposed on blogACTIVE, Rep. Ed Scrock (VA) pulled out of his reelection campaign. Rep. David Dreier (CA) is no longer speaking for the GOP, as he is too busy trying to hold on to his seat back home. It's the first time in years that Rep. Dreier has a real race on his hands. The site has also exposed high ranking homophobes like Jay Timmons, Executive Director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee and Dan Gurley, the National Field Director and Deputy Political Director of the RNC.

I am writing to you today, specifically about two upcoming cases:
Over the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours, blogACTIVE will be releasing two cases on the site. One of them promises to be one of the biggest GLBT news stories of the decade. While, I am confident that the gay and lesbian press will cover this item, I am hoping, with your help, to begin an extensive advertising campaign on mainstream sites to attract readers from this candidate’s home state and district.
This candidate is running on a party platform that is among the most homophobic in the nation. I promise you this…the news of this candidate’s homosexuality is certain to shake things up a bit for years to come.

Also, through the power of the internet, I will be sharing a story of a Congressional “outing” that took place before the web was a powerful action tool. This Congressman has racked up quite a voting record – one that even a part-time sodomite should be ashamed of! This time around, we'll be able to use the web to educate the public about this homophobic Representative.
I hope you will take a moment to click here to support the upcoming actions. Your support has made it possible for us to accomplish so much in such a short amount of time. I am confident we can accomplish so much more.

Thank you so much for your support.

Mike Rogers

PS: blogACTIVE has played an important role in educating the mainstream press. When Dick and Lynne Cheney faked indignation about John Kerry mentioning their daughter, blogACTIVE quickly sent over 2,000 national and local journalists a copy of Mary Cheney's Coors Beer business card and the hard facts about her opportunism in the lesbian and gay community.

The site’s work has been covered by Frank Rich in the New York Times, The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, Garance Franke-Ruta in the American Prospect and hundreds of other press outlets from the LA Weekly to the Washington Post. I even appeared on The O'Reilly Factor, where I put that lying Bill O'Reilly in his place.

With your help, we will continue to bring these important stories to the American people. Thank you!

TAKE ACTION: Birds of a Feather Flock Together -- Even in the Closet - Let your family and friends know

Just when I thought I had fully updated on the scene in New York, here comes an interesting item. In the photo above, we have not one, but two closet cases. That's Golan Cipel, former lover of NJ Governor James McGreevey, on the left and former NYC Mayor Ed Koch on the right when they first met back in 1998. I sure wonder what was on the mind of the gay former mayor when he met Golan.

Here's an intem from Cindy Adams the other day in the New York:
...I want to smack that Golan Cipel creature who looked to bring down New Jersey Gov. McGreevey. Acquaintances send word, "Cipel is definitely not a trusting type." Having fled to his home in Israel where there's family, friends, an old boyfriend and a safe haven in his sexual life, he left the governor's world in pieces. He's a creep.
You're right about that Cindy, he is a creep. As I said, and we can see above...birds of a feather closet together! (I'm no fan of James "gay beats corrupt" McGreevey, but that's another story.)

TAKE ACTION

This is the first time I've asked blogACTIVE readers to take action by writing your own friends and families in Florida. Closet case Ed Koch is campaigning for the anti-gay Bush Campaign in Florida folks...so take a moment and write a personal note to your family members and friends in South Florida to let them know the real truth about Ed Koch and his backstabbing ways. If you click here, you'll get a window that will have the subject and blind copy to the blogACTIVE letter files already filled in. Happy writing.

The Support Continues...Ellen Goodman exposes Cheney record of homophobia

The stories recognizing Lynne Cheney for the fraud she is continue to come in. Ellen Goodman has a great piece in The Boston Globe. Here are some excerpts:
Remember way back in the 1980s, when Dick Cheney racked up one of the most antigay voting records in the House of Representatives? In 1988, he was one of 13 members who even voted against funding for AIDS testing and research when it was still called a "gay plague." Well, Cheney's come as far as many other Americans, and for the same essential reason. The more people in our families, workplaces, and communities come out of the closet, the harder it is to regard them as deviants who need to be cured or converted or jailed.

* * * *

If Cheney has an argument with anybody it's with his running mate, George Bush. But the "pretty angry father" hasn't directed any of that anger at the Republican platform he's running on.

* * * *

Mary Cheney is an endangered species, a gay Republican in a campaign so hostile that even the Log Cabin Republicans refused to endorse Bush this year. She is loyal to her father, who is loyal to the president.
* * * *

Is it any wonder that many people in the gay community think she is working for the enemy? There is even a milk carton posted on the Internet that asks the question: Have you seen her?
Happy reading.

This Sunday in the NYT: Marygate exposed by Frank Rich for the cheap politics it is!

If I had a newspaper, I'd clone Frank Rich a few times. Examples of why we need more people like Mr. Rich in journalism never cease and this coming Sunday's New York Times is no different. Here's a few excerpts of what he has to say about the pathetic Marygate item:
To try to prop up its fictional headline "Outing Mary Cheney," The [Wall Street] Journal argued that "Mr. and Mrs. Cheney have not kept their daughter's lesbianism a secret but neither have they shouted it to the sky." Huh? Though Dick Cheney doesn't shout anything, he described his daughter as gay on camera at an Iowa campaign appearance this summer. But whatever Mr. and Mrs. Cheney may have to say about it, The Journal never entertained the thought that Mary Cheney herself has a voice in this matter. She has been openly gay for years. Before the 2000 campaign, she held a job that literally announced her homosexuality: gay and lesbian liaison for Coors, a public marketing assignment that even required her to travel the country with the winner of the 1999 International Mr. Leather competition. She later joined the Republican Unity Coalition, a gay-rights advocacy group formed as an alternative to the similarly inclined Log Cabin Republicans.

From all the outcry over Mr. Kerry's invocation of Ms. Cheney, with the attendant rhetoric about the evil of exploiting a candidate's "child" in a campaign, you might never guess that the child in question is not Chelsea Clinton at age 12 but a 35-year-old woman (two years older than Andrea Mackris). Or that she lives openly with her partner, Heather Poe, whom she brought onstage after the vice presidential debate. Or that she is the paid director of vice presidential operations for the Bush campaign, and that her mother is the author of a notorious potboiler ("Sisters," 1981) that drools over the prospect of lesbian coupling with O'Reilly-like glee. (For choice excerpts from Mrs. Cheney's fiction, go to whitehouse.org/administration/sisters.asp ).

Gay (and now Lesbian)-Baiting is nothing new to Karl Rove:

The deployment of homosexuality as a nasty campaign weapon has long been second nature to Mr. Rove. In the must-read article "Karl Rove in a Corner" in the November issue of The Atlantic, the journalist Joshua Green exhaustively researches the tightest campaigns of Mr. Rove's career and exhumes the pattern. As Mr. Green reminds us, George W. Bush's 1994 gubernatorial race against Ann Richards "featured a rumor" that Governor Richards was a lesbian. Gay whispers have also swirled around Rove adversaries like a rival Republican campaign consultant in the 1980's and a 1994 Alabama judicial candidate who was branded a "homosexual pedophile."

None of these rumors were, in fact, true, but Mary Cheney is unambiguously and unapologetically gay. For a campaign that wants to pander to the fringe, that makes her presence in the Bush-Cheney family a problem - just how big a problem can be seen by its disingenuously hysterical reaction to Mr. Kerry's use of the L word. But Mary Cheney isn't the only problem for Mr. Rove as he plays this game. The Republican establishment is rife with gay people - just ask anyone in proximity to its convention in New York - and the campaign doesn't want the four million to know about them, either. But in this election season, actual outing has begun to creep onto the Internet, where the names of closeted Republican congressmen and aides who support anti-gay policies are a Google search away. Some named so far - one of whom dropped out of his re-election campaign in August - hail from districts where some of those four million live.

In his conclusion, Rich notes that:
Sooner or later this untenable level of hypocrisy is going to lead to a civil war within the Republican party. But this hypocrisy is not just about homosexuality - it's about all sexuality, as befits a party that calls for the elimination of Roe v. Wade and the suppression of candid sex education that might prevent teenage pregnancy and AIDS alike.
Happy reading!

Poor Councilman Gentile.....Riding that, um, wave?

Quite a fun read here...From today's New York Post's Page Six, the city's most widely read gossip column:
October 21, 2004 -- CITY Councilman Vincent Gentile can't catch a break. Since he came out against same-sex marriage, the Brooklyn Democrat has been accused of sexually harassing a male staffer. Then, when he denied he was homosexual, a gay rights lawyer who once worked for him claimed they had a long-term affair. So on Monday night, at the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce gala at the Brooklyn Marriott, a sympathetic woman told him, "I stand behind you." Gentile, explaining how he'd been caught up in events beyond his control, said, "I'm riding a wave." A man standing nearby then addressed him: "Sir, from what I hear, that is not all you have been riding." Gentile turned and walked out.

American Prospect covers Marygate

If you have a few minutes to read some great writing, head over to The American Prospect and read Garance Franke-Ruta's item, Don't Ask, Do Tell. It's got some great stuff in it:
"There's a double standard," David Smith of the Human Rights Campaign told Salon in 2000. “Lynne Cheney has no problem talking about her daughter who's married and has children, and that's not private, but Mary's relationship is."
Franke-Ruta also points out the difference in reaction over Alan Keyes comments and John Kerry's debate answer....more pathetic double standards for a campaign in a desperate effort to secure victory. Shame on every gay man and lesbian that works for these people. Shame.

Even more fun than the original article, is the post on The American Prospect's Blog site. Could it really be true that Marygate is just an insurance policy against more outings? Hmmmm. Interesting thought, to say the least. Here's how the blog entry is ended:
One interesting theory I've heard is that some of this may be preemptive framing to soften the blow if certain members of the Bush administration or campaign find themselves outed in the weeks or months ahead. Mike Rogers has been very, very active with his outing campaign over the past few months, and who knows what he's going to do next. All in all, a terrible year for gay Republicans, for every possible reason.
Of course, blogACTIVE readers know our work is bipartisan, just ask Vincent Gentile of the NY City Council. Nonetheless, I think she hit it right on the money when she said that it's been a bad season for the Gay, er Grand Old Party.

On another GOP Note: I had always thought Lee Atwater died of a brain tumor...then last week one of his acquaintances showed me Lee's panel in the AIDS Quilt. Hmmm..well at least the right wing is not flip flopping...they consistently live in denial over the lives of the men in their midst.

TAKE ACTION: There's Something About Mary. She was the paid lesbian diplomat for Coors Beer!

UPDATED: Saturday Oct 16th

Mary Cheney used to work for the Coors Brewing Company. Her job title was Corporate Relations Manager. Let me translate that for you: OUT LESBIAN working to convince millions of gay men and lesbians to end their years-long boycott of Coors. Mary Cheney met with representatives of gay and lesbian organizations and gave them Coors sponsorship money in an effort to repair of the Coors Beer brand in the gay community.

That's right. While Wolf Blitzer and Lynne Cheney are whining that Mary Cheney should not be brought into the election, the rest of us realize that invasions of her "privacy" are a bogus complaint. When it came to fighting for the dollars of the gay and lesbian community, Mary Cheney was standing in the front lines between Coors Beer and the gay and lesbian market demographic.

I personally met Mary Cheney about five years ago, when she was the VERY OUT lesbian liaison to the gay community for Coors Brewing. As many blogACTIVE.com readers know, Coors had been the object of a nationwide boycott by the gay community. Mary's job was to convince gay and lesbian community organizations to accept money from Coors Beer. She spent her time explaining that Coors Beer brand and homopbohic business magnate Pete Coors were not one and the same when it comes to issue of importance the gay and lesbian community. Mary explained how the pro-Gay company deserved support despite the homophobic family that owned it and made its money from it. Ugh.

By the way, Mary was very successful in her work. Despite the Coors' family's homophobia and gay-baiting, plenty of gay men and lesbians drink Coors. Why? Because PR folks like Mary Cheney will tell you that the family and the company are different. I will look into rejuvination of the Coors Boycott in a few weeks, right now there's other things to deal with.

Why is this relevant today?

Basically, the Bush/Cheney '04 folks want take the focus over the REAL issues facing the American people. If the news spends 120 seconds of Lynne Cheney fuming that her OUT LESBIAN daughter was mentioned during the question of HOMOSEXUALITY, that is two minutes of not talking about what the American people care about most: Iraq, jobs, health care and the economy.

WHERE was Lynne's outrage when wealthy gay and lesbian individuals were donating hundreds of dollars through the Republican Unity Coalition to have their picture taken with her daughter because she was the first out gay child of a sitting Vice President?

WHERE was Lynne's outrage when business magnate-turned U.S. Senate candidate Pete Coors (R) hired Mary to help market events similar to the gay 'Black and Blue Ball' in Montreal, mentioned by Tim Russert this past weekend on 'Meet the Press'? You're telling me the Cheney's have a problem with John Kerry's mere identification of their daughter as a gay person, but they DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM with Mary spearheading the Coors sponsorship of events like the like the 'Rail Raunch and Fetish Night'?

WHERE was Lynne's outrage when the GOP mailed these homophobic flyers in swing states?

WHERE was Lynne's outrage when the GOP passed the most anti gay and lesbian platform in American history?

Lynne Cheney, a good part of your daughter's career was spent as the official lesbian diplomat for Pete Coors and his corporate brands.

Lynne Cheney, have you no shame?

TAKE ACTION!

Take a moment, click here to write a note to CNN anchors and tell them that on a day when a car bomb goes off in Iraq, there is more important news than Mary Cheney...she's been out for years! Jeez...you think they would want to cover Dreier with all this obsession about gay sex!

Washington Post: Outrage That Rings False

A great piece in today's Washington Post by Hilary Rosen. Hilary is the former head of the Recording Industry Association of America and a great supporter of the community. Her Partner is Elizabeth Birch, former head of the Human Rights Campaign.

Hilary lets it be known how she feels about Marygate:
The response from the Cheneys and the Bush campaign has been blatantly political. In fact, it is they who are using Mary Cheney -- using her now to score points against Kerry and John Edwards over an issue on which they themselves are guilty of the wrongs that Kerry and Edwards are fighting against. Even after almost 30 years in Washington, I am surprised by the overwhelming hypocrisy and meanness of the Bush reelection campaign. (emphasis added).
Thank you Hilary for a great piece!

TAKE ACTION: Tell Kuhl and Party Leaders what YOU think of the new Shotguns & Cocktail Party!

I'm not sure how it has come to this in America, but right now there is a man running for the United States Congress you really need to know about. Check out what's up at Blue Lemur:
In or about 1994, while the parties were hosting a dinner party at their home, the defendant took out two shotguns and threatened to shoot plaintiff
The court's record is clear. The remaining allegations are of soliciting other women, abuse, humiliation and refusing to seek treatment for his drinking. Here's another quote:
In the summer of 1995 and with increasing frequency thereafter, defendant repeatedly belittled, criticized, humiliated and embarrassed plaintiff in front of the parties’ friends
Ugh. These are people who then want to claim the mantle of family values?! We better hurry up and protect marriage with a Constitutional Amendment. If the Amendment is reconsidered, perhaps an amendment to the Amendment is in order. I propose the following:
Marriages between nice women and men who get liquored up at dinner parties and make death threats while waving shotguns in the air are prohibited in these United States.
TAKE ACTION

New York State Senator Randy Kuhl voted AGAINST protecting gays and lesbians from Job Discrimination.

It's no wonder he wants to run for Congress. With husbands like him running around the country, he probably thinks a contitutional amendment is what's needed to protect marriage. News Alert Randy: If you want to protect marriage, prohibit men like yourself from entering into marriage...with a person of ANY gender.

Click here to write Randy Kuhl's campaign manager with copies going to senior party leaders like Dennis Hastert's Chief of Staff, leaders in the New York State legislature and others who are supporting Randy's candidacy. Make sure you include a link to this item or to the Blue Lemur.com piece on Randy's court papers. Let these leaders know that Randy Kuhl does not reflect their party.

TAKE ACTION: Write Vincent Gentile AND the New York City Council Standards and Ethics Committee

It's nice to be back home after a quick trip to New York City. While there, I appeared on a panel on outing and saw some old friends from my days as a resident of the Big Apple.

While in New York I learned a bit more about the case of a gay City Council member who sold the gay community out in exchange for a City Council seat. Check out this article on Vincent Gentile at Gay City News.

Vincent Gentile
Former State Senator, Current NY City Councilmember, Gay, Homophobic

I heard Tom Shanahan speak at the NYC Lesbian and Gay Community Services Center. I heard how Gentile (when he was in the State Senate) promised his constituents he would vote for the New York State version of the non-discrimination in employment act. I heard how Gentile turned his back on the gay community at the last minute, ending up as just one of a few Democrats to not support the bill. I also heard how Gentile had a relationship with a male campaign worker years ago and how that relationship began under similar circumstances mentioned in a new ethics complainst aginast the Councilmember. Gentile sold his gay and lesbian brothers and sisters down the river. Why? Because he thought his vote would help him secure his election to the New York City Council. And now, the closet has proven once again how dangerous a place it can be.

TAKE ACTION

blogACTIVE readers, please click here and write to Councilmember Gentile and tell him what you think of his hiding in the closet while sleeping with campaign staff and while voting against the gay and lesbian community. Your note will be forwarded to the NYC Council's Standards and Ethics Committee members, which is investigating the ethics complaint filed against Mr. Gentile by his former chief of staff, John Martin.

Dreier Exposed by Conservative Republican in Online Journal

As Springsteen said the other night at the Vote For Change Concert, "You Can Run, But You Cannot Hide." Now from the author of One-Way Ticket to Crawford, Texas, a Conservative Republican Speaks Out comes this scathing piece on closet case David Dreier:
There ladies and gentlemen are four "Lock-Step neocons," I submit fascists, that hold themselves up high before this nation as the hypocrites we should all follow. Hmm, not very high with me, and no, not even going to follow them across the street from this day forward.

Stay tuned—there is plenty of truth to be found. There are few if any truth seekers in Washington, DC, or in our major media outlets. The truth will not set some of them free and it seems the major media have sold all of us out folks. I think Chris Matthews on Hard Ball probably knows why Mr. Fund is on TV Probation and no longer a regular on that show, but not a word about the truth from our major corporate-owned media.

This sleaze is much wider spread than Americans know and even on this web site there was an article by Wayne Madsen that includes information about Bennett and Dreier and others.

I make a motion that we vote them all out of office, send them home in shame, clean America's house in DC, flush the toilet in DC, and start over with some "less compromised" people that are not quite so hypocritical and have the honor they lack. Do I hear a second?

Raw Story Exposes Anti Gay GOP Candidate Divorce Records.

I'm on my way out, but you won't want to miss this breaking story at Raw Story. While he wasn't voting against New York's SONDA, the law prohibiting anti gay employment discrimination, it appears that Randy Kuhl was engaging in a little discrimination of his own...that is if you consider threatening to shoot your wife at a dinner party a form of discrimination...

Bloggers continue to impact news....

There are still those who doubt the power of blogs. Well, The latest issue of The Advocate will put that to rest.
Such is the power of the blog, a new breed of Web site that has made waves in this election season. Outing may be nothing new, but the speed with which accusations like Rogers’s can race around the Web is revolutionary. It didn’t matter that Schrock’s staffers insisted he wasn’t gay. Less than two weeks after Rogers first made his allegations, he’d effectively ended the congressman’s career. “Blogs can change the world,” Rogers says.
You can read the piece here.

And on another note...Last night I was at Vote for Change, the amazing concert for Americans Coming Together. Change is in the air...it was amazing to see Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, Dave Matthews, John Mellencamp, REM, James Taylor, The Dixie Chicks, Jurassic 5, Babyface Edmonds and more at an INCREDIBLE concert! If you weren't lucky enough to be there, I hope you caught it on Sundance or the net.

Angry Angry George

Well, I'm definitely having fun enhancing my photoshop skills. The classic 12 Angry Men was on this weekend and it brought this idea to mind. Enjoy.
