And now a word to our sponsors: You!

[I'm going to leave this up to trough Tuesday evening, in case you mssed it. -M]

Over three years ago -- within a month of this site's launch -- I received the following email:
From: [redacted]
Sent: Monday, August 09, 2004 12:30 PM
To: Mike Rogers
Subject: Outing

I've hooked up with Craig... why not out some actual members and not their staffers?
That one line question put me on an odyssey from my email box to clear across the country and back again. I was brand new at this and learned something new each step along the way. And each time I asked for help, despite some criticism, you were there, and for that I thank you from the very bottom of my heart.

Trips to Boise, Seattle, and Columbus, made only with your help, made it possible for me to run my report and spur the Idaho Statesman to assign a reporter -- full time for many months! -- to the story. When Larry Craig stood up and lied to the people of Idaho, the Idaho Statesman had a 3,800 word article ready to run because of my reporting the story last October.

Here's what the Editor and Vice President of the Statesman, Vicki Gowler, wrote today about my work and her decision to pursue the story because of my reporting last October:
We decided it was important to try to find out the truth about these rumors. In a conservative state like ours, whether our senior senator had had sex with other men was something I believed our readers would want to know.
...
We decided it was time to do a thorough investigation. What we thought would be a commitment of several weeks, stretched out as Dan [Popkey, lead reporter on the story] got leads and worked to track down people and evidence.

That happened last Monday when we learned about the senator’s arrest in Minneapolis in a men’s restroom known for anonymous sex. It was eerily similar to the account we had heard from the professional man in Washington, D.C.
As news of the arrest spread across the state, the Statesman article went live. The messaging was complete, the truth was finally printed by the mainstream media.

You, the supporters of my work made this possible and I hope you'll consider supporting this work today. There's no Idaho Statesman operation behind BlogActive; no crew of researchers, reporters, or an Editor/Vice President. It's me and you. I'll do the work...I just need you to help make it happen.

If you've ever wondered whether this work makes a difference consider this: Without the work of this site that spurred the reporting by the Statesman sealed the deal before the broken Senator came out with his first denial.

If you'd like to support the ongoing work of this site and you missed one of the many links above, you can donate via PayPal or credit card here.

Thank you so very much.
