The final nail...

So, you're all wondering: Will Larry Craig resign or not? (Trust me, he's not running for reelection). This audio tape might just be the end of it all.
Craig went to the Gonzo School of Testimony:
05:08: "I don't know, I don't know"The voices get raised at 07:30, the cop is over the line. He should not judge Craig with lines like "people voted for you." It's not the cop's job to attack Craig based on the fact that he is an elected official. That is the job of Craig's constituents in Idaho.
05:20: "I don't recall that"
05:46: "I don't recall"
05:55: "I don't recall"
06:15: "I don't recall that"
WaPo on Mr. "I am not gay"
The money quote:Maybe that's because the affair is another nightmare of hypocrisy come true: Once again, the party that embraces a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage and blocks laws that would stop discrimination against homosexuals finds itself with a loyal foot soldier who votes one way and allegedly acts another. Mr. Craig voted for the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. He voted for a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in 2004. Last year, he supported an Idaho constitutional amendment that prohibits gay marriage and civil unions. Mr. Craig is yet another willing accomplice in the machinery of intolerance that has stunted the lives of many gay men and lesbians. Maybe even his own. They're getting it, they really are getting it!

Goodnight, Larry...
Editorial: Sen. Larry Craig needs to resignThe rest is here...
For the good of a state he loves, a state he has served for more than a quarter century.
It is difficult and unpleasant to call on Idaho's senior senator to end a career in public service. We don't do this casually, or unanimously.
However, we cannot abide an elected official who didn't disclose a lewd conduct arrest until the story broke 77 days later -- a lie by omission and a violation of the public trust. We cannot believe Craig can effectively serve Idaho, under the shadow of his guilty plea on a lesser charge of disorderly conduct. We cannot afford, as a state with but four congressional representatives, to have a senator who merely provides fodder for bloggers and late-night talk show hosts.

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome
I'm getting more hits tonight in each hour than I normally get in a quiet week on the site. Welcome to those of you coming in via Yahoo!, the Associated Press, CNN or other places.
You've stumbled upon BlogACTIVE.com, the site that exposes anti-gay politicians who themselves are closeted. Over the past three years my work has exposed folks like US Rep. Ed Schrock (you can hear recordings of his calls to a male sex hook up line here) and US Rep. David Dreier. In October of last year I reported on US Senator Larry Craig's sexual encounters with men, including one at Washington, DC's Union Station.
Here are some links to my work on Larry Craig from last year:
My original report: Senator Larry Craig.... What's with the gay bashing? If you believe that exposing anti-gay right closet cases is important for our democracy, please stop by here and support the research and travel expenses needed to put together these stories. THANKS!
Spokesman Review: If our reporters had uncovered this information, it's unlikely we would run a story. However, because this information is already circulating through other media, it's a different situation.

Over at Proud Of Who We Are...
."Larry Craig should stand up and be honest with the citizens of Idaho about who he is," said Rogers, the country's top gay activist blogger. "Tonight is a historic opportunity for Senator Craig to run for re-election as a proud gay American. What a great turning point for one of the most conservative states in the country to be represented by an openly gay Senator."
"Senator Craig's situation is exacerbated by the fact that he has a voting record that is counter to the interest of lesbian and gay Americans. All too often, closeted men like Senator Craig use their voting record to hide their truth from the American people. With this news now out in the open, I call upon Senator Craig to reevaluate his votes on issues like the Federal Marriage Amendment, Don't Ask Don't Tell, and the Defense of Marriage Act.
"The Minnesota arrest is not a one-time occurrence," Rogers added. "Last October, I reported on three other encounters that Senator Craig had with men – including one in a bathroom in Washington's Union Station. What's troubling about this is Larry Craig's hypocrisy: he repeatedly votes against the gay community during his day job, while engaging in same-sex encounters as extra curricular activity. Now is a good time for Larry Craig to join millions of other Americans and be proud of who he is.

Check out these video clips from 1982 when he preemptively denied his involvement in a Congressional sex and drug scandal. (I love what he says about unmarried people back then and how often do politicians issue preemptive denials based on rumors?)
LARRY CRAIG ARRESTED FOR MEN'S ROOM SEX IN JUNE... PLED GUILTY!!!
WOW!
Craig Arrested, Pleads Guilty Following Incident in Airport Restroom
Monday, Aug. 27, 2007; 4:48 pmBy John McArdle,
Roll Call Staff
Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) was arrested in June at a Minnesota airport by a plainclothes police officer investigating lewd conduct complaints in a men’s public restroom, according to an arrest report obtained by Roll Call Monday afternoon.
Craig’s arrest occurred just after noon on June 11 at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. On Aug. 8, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct in the Hennepin County District Court. He paid more than $500 in fines and fees, and a 10-day jail sentence was stayed. He also was given one year of probation with the court that began on Aug. 8.
A spokesman for Craig described the incident as a “he said/he said misunderstanding,” and said the office would release a fuller statement later Monday afternoon.
After he was arrested, Craig, who is married, was taken to the Airport Police Operations Center to be interviewed about the lewd conduct incident, according to the police report. At one point during the interview, Craig handed the plainclothes sergeant who arrested him a business card that identified him as a U.S. Senator and said, “What do you think about that?” the report states.

DNC Credits blogger who delivered Congress for shaking up Thompson campaign
DNC Supports FEC Complaint Against Fred ThompsonBecause of Lane's work last year, Karen Finney has a MUCH easier job over the next year. I wonder why NOT ONE PERSON at the DNC has helped Lane find a job. (lane has been out of work since he posted the Mark Foley emails and was fired as a result of it.)
Testing the Waters Campaign Goes Beyond Scope of the Law
Washington, DC – Today, the Democratic National Committee issued a statement in support of the Federal Election Commission complaint filed by Lane Hudson against Fred Thompson's "Test the Waters" Campaign.
"Voters deserve to know whether Fred Thompson is in or out," said Democratic National Committee Communications Director Karen Finney. "Thompson continues to skirt the same campaign finance laws that he once championed by running a shadow campaign in order to avoid financial disclosure requirements which would force him to reveal his donors. In addition to skirting campaign finance laws, Thompson also appears to be trying to avoid the rigors of the campaign trail, including debates, serious interviews with the media and details on where he stands on the issues important to the American people. Thompson should stop trying to skirt the laws. Americans have already had six years of an Administration that believes it's above the law – we don't need more of the same."

Bill O'Reilly....athiest hater

I went to YKos with the hopes of asking the presidential candidates who are currently in the Senate a simple question:
If you are really for the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, why haven't you introduced a bill to repeal the law and will you commit to doing so in the next sixty days? The most surprising non-answer came from a non candidate...Ned Lamont. He calls himself progressive?
I made my rounds of the presidential breakout sessions. Covering the convention for my news site, PageOneQ, made it possible for me to float around to a number of them.
Didn't get a chance to ask a question of Hillary. (Neither did too many others. She managed to filibuster answers so she only took four questions during the hour-long session.) One questioner did mention Don't Ask Don't Tell, but he let Hillary off the hook by stating she supported it in the preamble to another question. Oh Well.
I also managed to make it to the Dodd session. Here's what's interesting. Forget that Dodd would not answer my question. Ned Lamont, there with Dodd, did.
I had to rephrase the question, as Lamont is not a member of the Senate:
Ned, If you are really for the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, would you have introduced a bill in favor of the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell.Despite my standing directly in front of Ned, I got no response. So I tried a different tactic:
Ned, can you tell me, if you were in the senate would you at least co-sponsor or pledge to vote for a law that repealed the ban on lesbian and gay servicemembers?"I just don't know," he replied.
Some progressive.

Why is it that every time...

Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against flaming queens (I've been called one myself)...It's just an observation.
From the San Jose Mercury News:
A megachurch canceled a memorial service for a Navy veteran 24 hours before it was to start because the deceased was gay.Officials at the nondenominational High Point Church knew that Cecil Howard Sinclair was gay when they offered to host his service, said his sister, Kathleen Wright. But after his obituary listed his life partner as one of his survivors, she said, it was called off.
"It's a slap in the face. It's like, 'Oh, we're sorry he died, but he's gay so we can't help you,'" she said Friday.
Wright said High Point offered to hold the service for Sinclair because their brother is a janitor there. Sinclair, who served in the first Gulf War, died Monday at age 46 from an infection after surgery to prepare him for a heart transplant.
The church's pastor, the Rev. Gary Simons, said no one knew Sinclair, who was not a church member, was gay until the day before the Thursday service, when staff members putting together his video tribute saw pictures of men "engaging in clear affection, kissing and embracing."
Simons said the church believes homosexuality is a sin, and it would have appeared to endorse that lifestyle if the service had been held there.
"We did decline to host the service - not based on hatred, not based on discrimination, but based on principle," Simons told The Associated Press. "Had we known it on the day they first spoke about it - yes, we would have declined then. It's not that we didn't love the family."

An open letter to straight America
"There on the hill outside of Juarez [Mexico], the taste of dust in my mouth, I found myself face to face with the latest manifestation of a virulent capitalism in which masses of humanity become pawns for massive profits for a few. What does this mean, I thought, to gay people?" -Mab Segrest, 1993If you're gay, keep moving. Hit the 'back' button, click on a recent RSS link, visit one of your bookmarks; this isn't for you. It is, rather, for the 90 or so percent of readers who are, shall we say, homosexually challenged.
Tonight, for the first time on commercial television, the Democratic candidates for President, save Joe Biden and Chris Dodd, will gather to speak on issues of interest to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. It will be the American political system in full force. Candidates, press, political leaders, bloggers, and the bevy of spinmeisters and consultants who make a living at these sorts of things will all be there.
The most important thing we need is you...
No one needs to convince politically attuned folks in the LGBT community to watch; they will tune in. The candidates and politics will draw them to LOGO, the MTV channel with programming for the gay community. For others it will be the presence of Melissa Etheridge on the panel or the well-known leader of the Human Rights Campaign, Joe Solmonese, who will attract them. Very little work will need to be done to bring LGBT folks to television screens (and webcasts) across America.
I'm worried about the potential lack of attention that straight America will be paying to tonight's discussion.
We need you to care enough about your neighbors and their right to work enough to listen to what these candidates have to say about job discrimination. We need you to care enough about parentless children who would be placed in loving homes, but for the misguided fears of politicians placating extremists. We need you to care enough about the plight of people with HIV and AIDS and what these candidates have to say about health care in America. We need you to care enough about our nation's armed forces in a time of war to hear what these candidates say about our right to serve in the military and what they will specifically do to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell. (Lip service is good, but until one of the sitting US Senators running for president actually introduces a bill to repeal DADT I don't really want to hear it from them.)
Trust me. Aside from a few (well, OK more than a few) closeted anti-gay Republicans, gays are convinced. Gays are for job protections and equal treatment the right to serve in the military. Gays are for marriage equality and the right of all people to adopt kids. This is why we need the rest of you to pay attention tonight.
In her 1993 A Bridge, Not a Wedge plenary speech to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Creating Change conference, North Carolina civil rights activist Mab Segrest spoke of the need for progressive causes to join together. "There on the hill outside of Juarez [Mexico], the taste of dust in my mouth, I found myself face to face with the latest manifestation of a virulent capitalism in which masses of humanity become pawns for massive profits for a few. What does this mean, I thought, to gay people?"
In her wide-raging remarks, Segrest touched labor issues, immigration, the environment, racism, classism, sexism and other forms of discrimination. She explained why it was important to fight NAFTA and how progressive movements are inextricably linked. Segrest understood how movements cannot operate alone. If you care about race, class, immigration, the environment, labor or any of the host of issues uniting the left, drop by tonight. After 43 years of living in a world you dominate, it will be nice to welcome you into a small part of our world.
When she headed the Human Rights Campaign, Elizabeth Birch was fond of explaining that the struggle for LGBT rights is waged and won at kitchen tables across America every day. Today that playing field has been extended to interactive television and flat panel monitors. Spend a few minutes; give yourself the tools to help you respond to misinformation. In a time where legislative battles are fought and won in the media, we need the 90 percent of you out there to arm yourselves with the information we need to win.
The Human Rights Campaign/LOGO Presidential Forum will be be held tonight - August 9th at 9pm EST. To locate LOGO on your cable system, check here. The event will be webcast here.

Like Lucy's chocolate line

Remember when Lucy and Ethel got the job at the chocolate factory and the manufacturing belt moved really quickly? (If not, here's the YouTube link) It seems that the guy who runs the "closeted anti-gay Republican manufacturing assembly line" has been pressing that machine really hard too.
If the past few weeks weren't enough, it's time for another one of these guys. This one is PRESIDENT of the NATIONAL YOUNG REPUBLICANS!
It's got all the dirt... sex, harassment, secret recordings, police reports and more.
The full story is here, at PageOneQ.
