We can win. Surrender is not an option.
Simply click here and enter a comment at the bottom of the page expressing support for Pride At Work to receive the $500. What could be easier?

More discrediting
I contacted Rob at BigHeadDC and asked him specifically about the information he posted with regard to Sam Donaldson's number appearing in the DC Madam's, Jeane Palfrey. Once the story was discredited by Radar, I decided to dig a little deeper. It was only about five minutes before I was able to put my shovel down on this angle to the story.
I happen to know Jeane Palfrey. So, I wrote a note last night:

Hi Benjamin,
I’m an editor with Big Head DC in Washington. A commenter on the site recently said that you and Sen. Trent Lott happened to be vacationing together at the same place on a couple of separate occasions. Could you clarify whether you know Sen. Lott in any way?
I appreciate your help.
All the best,
Rob

Hmmm someone wants to move a story: Write comments which may or may not be factually correct. What, I wonder, is the IP address of that comment? Did Mr Nicholas himself write it? Someone he knows?

Classic. People THINK that "no comment" means more than "no comment." Bottom line is "no comment" means just that, nothing more.

I’m a blogger as well, so I’m well aware that nothing in this world is ever truly ‘off-record.’
Trent is going through his fair share of scrutiny right now and I don’t want to add to it. All I can say at this point is no comment. It’s the professional thing for me to do.
This is also a classic. Never claim to know the person, but mention them on a first name basis give the IMPRESSION that the person knows the subject of the inquiry. As a prostitute, Benjamin gets it right, it is "the professional thing" to not comment on clients, whether actual or perceived.

I definitely understand what you’re saying about commenting into the blogosphere, Benjamin, and have had it happen to me before. I’m just trying to establish whether you personally know Sen. Lott. A couple of people tipping Big Head DC suggested I contact you, so I thought I’d take a shot. I’m definitely not asking whether you were ever in a relationship with him. Have you been contacted by others about knowing him?

Yes. I was contacted by Gawker this morning ([Nick] Denton is a friend of mine). He’s hot to get an exclusive interview about the possible relationship between the two of us, but I politely declined. As I said before, Lott has quite a bit on his plate right now and I don’t really want to add fuel to the embers.

Well, we all know Lott has a lot on his plate, he's a US Senator. That does not mean that he ever met this guy. The whole fuel on the embers line? Brilliant... keep 'em wondering.

Off-the-record, eh? Sheesh.
Here’s my public comment, on-the-record: Sen. Lott and I have no current affiliation with one another. I’m sure he would appreciate no further scrutiny.
There’s no story here Rob.

So, not only does the guy flatly tell the blogger at BigHeadDC that there is no story. He says they have no "current" affiliation. GREAT use of language to throw people off. When someone says "have no current affiliation with one another" it does NOT mean that they once had an affiliation.

Trent Lott: Closet case or just wanting to get out while the money is good?
BigHeadDC said Lott resigned because he hired gay call boys. Many of his clients greatly appreciate his professionalism. In fact, according to one 66-year-old patron who reviewed him on a gay escort site, he is “a very reliable escort who keeps you informed.”Huffington Post, says it's not so...
The boy happens to be real, and his “stage name” is Benjamin Nicholas. One of the politicos Big Head DC has learned he’s alleged to have been involved with is the married Sen. Trent Lott, 66, who unexpectedly announced his retirement on Monday. Lott is well-known to have been against a plethora of gay rights issues throughout his terms in Congress. He was also good friends with Sen. Larry Craig throughout his time in Congress.
Nicholas told Big Head DC today via e-mail that he didn’t want to go on the record to talk about his dealings with Lott, because, said Nicholas, “Trent is going through his fair share of scrutiny right now and I don’t want to add to it.” However, e-mail and other records confirm that the two have met on at least two occasions.
The guy Big Head has had is accuracy called into question before...A San Antonio-based gay male escort categorically denied Monday that outgoing GOP Sen. Trent Lott had ever procured his services, putting to bed one of the more stunning rumors to emerge following Lott's announcement earlier in the day that he was leaving Congress.
The charge was first published by the Washington DC blog Big Head DC, which claimed to have emails where the escort, Benjamin Nicholas, allegedly playing coy, declined to go on the record because "Trent is going through his fair share of scrutiny right now and I don't want to add to it."
But in an email message, Nicholas himself said the item was false.
"There's nothing to be said, as Lott and I have no connection whatsoever," Nicholas wrote in an email to The Huffington Post. "How these 'quotes' have been fabricated are beyond me. The Senator is someone I have had no personal dealings with, ever."
Rob Capriccioso, a Washington, D.C., blogger and sometime (now former) Radar freelancer, reported on his own blog, bigheaddc.com, last evening that Sam Donaldson's phone number appears on the D.C. Madam's supposed client list—the record of outgoing phone calls that Deborah Jean Palfrey made while operating the high-end-hooker operation that serviced Sen. David Vitter and other D.C. potentates. (Radar mentioned the Bigheaddc story here.)Of course in DC, they always say "follow the money."
What he didn't report is that Palfrey told him, repeatedly, in no uncertain terms, that her single telephone call to Donaldson had nothing to do with prostitution.
This is gonna be interesting.

Caption Contest! Woo Hoo!
David O'Toole, author of Sex, Spies and Videotape: Outing the Senator has graciously donated autographed copies of the book to BlogActive for some fun contests.I'll give away the first copy via a caption contest.
From the website of one Rudy Gonzales of Idaho, "one of the nation's most requested cowboy entertainers," comes these two pictures. In the comments, indicate if your caption is for Picture A or Picture B and I'll ask David O'Toole for a hand in picking the winner.
In case you can't read Rudy's caption under Picture B, it says: "Long time friends Senator & Suzanne Craig. Suzanne is the pretty one on the left, Idaho's Senior Senator Larry Craig on the right, Rudy in the Middle at Sun Valley, Idaho Banquet."
For more information on Sex, Spies and Videotape: Outing the Senator, check out the book's entry on Amazon.com here.
Oh...here are the entries I would write...
A: Oy. That Sweater! No way is he gay in that!
B: Rudy Gonzales is not the only man to come between Larry and Suzanne Craig.

Last day for voting

PageOneQ has been honored to be a sponsor of 10 Questions. The program takes video questions from visitors and the most popular ones will be asked of the presidential candidates. In the age of 20 second soundbites, this forum will give those running the chance to give more thoughtful answers to citizen's questions.
There's a great mix of blogs and mainstream media in on this: The NY Times and MSNBC are joined by some of my favorite sites: BlogHer, Crooks&Liars, CultureKitchen, FireDogLake, Huffington Post, MyDD, Open Left, Page One Q, Pam's House Blend, PoliticsTV, and RawStory. For a complete list of sponsors, click here.
It's pretty simple...
Phase one (ends tonight)
1. Questions submitted to the presidential candidates.
2. You vote on the best questions.
3. The top ten questions get selected.
VOTE HERE.
Phase two (ends 12/31)
Candidates give thoughtful and meaningful answers to the questions, providing you the exact information you need to make an informed choice for president. Pretty cool, eh?
Phase three
This is the fun part. The people get to then vote for those who gave (and those who did not give) answers to the actual questions. (I know, what a novel idea! Actually reviewing a candidate's answer to see if it relates to the question they were asked.)
Join the fun at 10 Questions.

A quick, yet relevant, ENDA item
Thank you to David Dreier and Jim McCreary, two closeted gay men who finally got with the program and vote for equality.
Ho Hum....
A Republican lawmaker who tried to pass tougher public lewdness laws was convicted Friday of agreeing to pay for gay sex with an undercover officer in a men's park restroom.Hmmmm... Paging Billy Martin... but remember, Bob, the high-priced legal team hasn't helped your buddy Larry Craig much.
State Rep. Bob Allen faces up to 60 days in county jail and a $500 fine for soliciting prostitution, a second-degree misdemeanor. The Merritt Island Republican was accused of peering over a stall at Titusville officer Danny Kavanaugh, then agreeing to pay $20 to perform oral sex on the policeman.
Allen said. "I am innocent; I've done nothing wrong."
Oh, I almost forgot the obligatory toss under the bus by his own friends:
House Speaker Marco Rubio said the House would act if Allen didn't.
"This conviction makes it impossible for Rep. Allen to represent responsibly the citizens of his district."

I've changed my mind
When I saw an email asking me to pitch a site for this years best LGBT blog in the WebLog Awards the other day I thought it would be best for me to sit this year out. Last year and in '05 I was a part of a campaign to push Pam over the top. Her awesome blog deserved the exposure. Pam is now the leading out lesbian blogger in America, traveling the country to spread the gospel. Then I gave it a second thought. While I do adore most of the blogs up for the award, I do hope you'll give a thought to voting for the Bilerico Project.
The Project is a real effort to unite our community, granting a place for a wide variety of folks to meet, talk, dialog and learn. They really deserve, like Pam in earlier years, to gain the notoriety from such an award. VOTE HERE.
I do hope you'll drop by and toss a vote their way.
"I don't know"... how refreshing
There really wasn't an ability to meet in the middle, because how can you when one effort requires that you lop off a piece of the community in the name of progress? Yes, the ball moves forward but at what cost, looking from the 30,000 foot view? I don't know.

State to yank plates from man who claimed sex with Larry Craig:
As the result of a complaint from an unnamed citizen, the Commonwealth of Virginia has ordered David Phillips, the man who recently claimed to have a sexual encounter with scandalized Senator Larry Craig, to turn in his vanity license plates, reports the Washington Post's Marc Fisher Sunday. The Washington Post article does not connect Phillips with his earlier claim.

Wikipedia wins landmark privacy lawsuit in France
PARIS--A French court has ruled that Wikipedia could not be held responsible for content posted by its users in a landmark ruling for the Internet giant, officials said Friday.
Three plaintiffs were each seeking 69,000 euros ($100,000) in damages for invasion of their privacy after their homosexuality was revealed on the website, which is written and edited by thousands of anonymous contributors.
But a judge rejected their demands in a ruling reached on Monday, arguing that 'the Wikimedia Foundation's responsibility ... has not been clearly established,' a decision welcomed by the foundation.
