A point about that silly war...
Remember when I said they want a civil war? Call it a coup, call it a war, call it whatever you want... but I do believe it's coming at some point...Newsmax Columnist: Military Coup May Be Needed 'To Resolve The Obama Problem':
In a column published yesterday, Newsmax's John L. Perry wrote that there is a 'gaining' possibility that the military will stage a coup to 'resolve the 'Obama problem.''
Newsmax has apparently removed the column from its site. Links are now redirected to the homepage, and Perry's author page has no mention of his latest work.
The coup -- which would be 'civilized' and 'bloodless,' according to Perry -- would consist of a 'patriotic general' sitting down with the President and working out a new system in which 'skilled, military-trained, nation-builders' would 'do the serious business of governing and defending the nation' while Obama would still be allowed to make speeches.
Obama, he said, is inviting such a 'family intervention.'
Change(tm)?
A Senate committee voted Tuesday night to restore $50 million a year in federal funding for abstinence-only education that President Barack Obama has pushed to eliminate.
The 12-11 vote by the Senate Finance Committee came over objections from its chairman, Democratic Sen. Max Baucus of Montana.
Two Democrats – Kent Conrad of North Dakota and Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas – joined all 10 committee Republicans in voting 'yes' on the measure by Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah.

Up and running
HBO: Outrage - Synopsis:The film also spotlights Michael Rogers, a gay activist and founder of blogACTIVE, a Washington, D.C.-based website dedicated to outing closeted public figures. Rogers feels it is necessary to expose the hypocrisy of those who may live one way in public and another way in private, explaining that his work is not about outing people who are gay, but rather about 'reporting on individuals who are working against the community that they then expect to protect them.'Six days and counting! The schedule. 24 times in one month. And it's on HBO's On Demand list. Thanks, HBO!

People, enough already
GOP vows to stall nominees over 'gag order':
Senate Republicans vowed to block President Obama's nominee for surgeon general and other health officials unless the government drops what they said was a 'gag order' barring health insurers from lobbying their Medicare policyholders on the health-care overhaul. And they wonder why donations to Democratic causes are tanking. How about representing the people you were elected to represent? Rich and middle income donors are saying enough. Can you blame them? The Democrats can't hold their shit together for ANYTHING. Wimps.
The move by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and seven other Republicans would delay confirmation of almost a dozen nominees for Health and Human Services posts, including that of Dr. Regina Benjamin to become surgeon general.
I tend to curse when I'm pissed.... I'm quite pissed. If Harry Reid loses his reelection bid it won't be much of a loss at all.

A moment to remember
A bicyclist who was traveling in the wrong lane and a motorcycle rider were both killed when they slammed into each other on Greene Avenue at Washington Avenue Friday night, the police said. The cyclist, Julian Miller, 45, of Washington Avenue, was headed west on Greene at 10:45 p.m. when he crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with the motorcyclist, Ajile Turner, 38, of Cumberland Street, who TMZ said was a cousin of the rapper Common. Both men were dead on arrival at Brooklyn Hospital.Julian was a regular contributor to the comments on this site. Every so often I'd be at other sites and he would have comments there that would defend my work:
You wouldn't ask a Jew to support the Nazi Party so it is central to Craig's political life that he has sex with men but votes against LGT rights. Mike Rogers researches the facts exhaustively before he goes public with such information. Craig's penchant for sex with other men has been an "open secret" in Washington, DC for over 20 years - It's time for hypocrites to step into the light. Many of us in the LGT community have lost all patience with closeted people who vote against our interests. His thoughts will be missed.
There will be a Ghost Bike installation and dedication in memory of Julian Miller this Sunday.
Thanks to Annitra for locating the comment.

Sarah Palin 's worst nightmare...
What is up with all these Republicans?
It's not me asking, it's George W. Bush...Bush allegedly said of Larry Craig: 'What is up with all these Republicans?'
President George W. Bush was flabbergasted by the revelation that Idaho Republican Sen. Larry Craig had plead guilty to soliciting an undercover cop at a Minneapolis airport, a former Bush speechwriter alleges in a new book.
"What is up with all these Republicans?" he purportedly remarked.

Politician posed nude...
Antigay Mass. Senate Candidate Posed Nude | Advocate.com:
"A Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the late Edward M. Kennedy posed nude for Cosmopolitan in 1982. State senator Scott Brown, who announced his long-shot bid for the seat on Saturday, is known around the state as a social and fiscal -- but apparently not a physical -- conservative."

As long as he means Democrats not having to ride with Republicans I'm all for it.
A great interview with Greta
If you are not familiar with Greta Christina's Blog, you should make it a point to drop by. She describes it as 'Sex, atheism, politics, dreams, and whatever.' Greta is an incredible writer and is spot on. I had the pleasure of hanging out with Greta twice: once at the LGBT Blogger and Citizen Journalist Summit and then again at Netroots Nation. (Greta also edits erotic comic collections, right).Greta just posted an interview she did with me over at her site and on The Blowfish blog. I had the opportunity to chat about how I think David Dreier is more like Barney Frank than he is like Larry Craig. I've never been asked that before.
I hope you'll take a look and say hi to Greta.

SC GOP open to gays?

Reaching out to gays? Maybe ever so subtly.
The S.C. GOP's rainbow coalition - Ben Smith - POLITICO.com:
The Republican Party has an obvious and much-discussed demographic problem: The future majorities aren't to be made of older straight white voters alone.

Coming soon to HBO
Civil war?
My friends tell me I am paranoid when I suggest that the political climate in this country is ripe for a full-blown civil war. Looking at the messaging that the right wing is doing, it's clear that they want a call to arms. Sure, they may not say "pick up your guns now," but it's what they are trying to incite. I know people hate the comparisons, but from the KKK to Glenn Beck, the messaging is almost identical.Secessionists, those on the "Take Our Country Back" team, and birthers are just a few of the bubbles in the brewing pot. Toss in some good old "death panel" rhetoric and then tell the media, "how about, in honor of the American soldier, you quit making things up" and America becomes a nation of zombies looking to pull their lives back from the brink where they believe Obama has pushed them.
When I tell friends that these are just a few of the potential breaking points, I ask them to consider two other points.
First, why did the NRA get involved in the Sonia Sotomayor nomination when it never stepped into the Supreme Court nomination process before? Is it that Sotomayor is the first liberal judge to come along? Or, that she is yet another person who doesn't look like them...another interloper, standing by to end freedom altogether.Herndon Davis wrote for BET.com how the pot boiling over (and that is about to happen) will affect the safety of our president. Here are some of the examples he cites as this kind of call to arms:
Second, can anyone.... seriously anyone.... tell me exactly why conservatives want millions upon millions of semi-automatic weapons? If not for duck hunting or shooting tin cans off of rail fences, then what are they for?
Political Hate Talk and the Safety of President Obama | News | BET.com:
In fact some of the worst offenders of this type language have been republican pundits, politicians and most recently a minister whose searing words have been recorded as follows:In 1860 South Carolina became the first state in the Union to secede. If they, and the other states in green (above) decide to do so, let's not fuck it up again... The words are:
Pastor Steven Anderson: "I hope that God strikes Obama with brain cancer so he can die like Ted Kennedy."
Glenn Beck: Pres. Obama "has a deep seated hatred for white people. This guy I believe is a racist." Obama's healthcare is driven by "reparations." Obama is trying to "settle old racial scores."
Rush Limbaugh: "Adolph Hitler, like Barack Obama also ruled by dictate" "The Obama healthcare logo is damn close to a Nazi swastika logo."US Rep. Michelle Bachmann: "Right now, we are looking at reaching down the throat and ripping the guts out of freedom. And we may never be able to restore it if we don't man up and take this one on." Referring to Obama's economic recovery plans, she stated that America needs an "orderly revolution." Bachmann has also inferred that Pres. Obama was "anti-American."
Good byeDon't forget... Millions and millions of semi-automatic weapons.

Back home from Montreal
Congratulations!
Remember the guy who illegally took a tax break on a house in DC? He's the one who had a slew of young men registered to vote at his home address... again, illegally! It's so excited to see a US congressman fall, um, in love.Rep. Patrick McHenry: Engaged!
"POLITICO has learned that there's some love in the House: Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) got engaged.Hey Pat... Congratulations! And you too, Giulia!!!
The 33-year-old congressman got engaged to Giulia Cangiano over the weekend in the tiny, cute and romantic spot of St. Michaels. Cangiano, who has been dating McHenry for seven months, is a senior economist at the Government Accountability Office, and the two met through mutual friends, McHenry's spokesman said.
Ironically, Cangiano grew up in Massachusetts and was a constituent of McHenry nemesis Rep. Barney Frank. Naturally, the two will live in North Carolina.
'Patrick and Giulia could not be happier and thank everyone for their well wishes,' McHenry's spokesman said."

Another one goes down
"KCAL-TV in Los Angeles played a tape of the married Yorba Linda Republican speaking about sex with two women. He apparently did not realize a microphone was on during a legislative hearing."
He's baaaaaaaaack!
Nearly three years after then-Congressman Mark Foley, R-FLA, saw his political career crumble following the revelation of his sexually explicit emails with underage congressional pages, he's garnering the spotlight once again: as a radio talk show host.

A must read...
Here's a little short about the kind of work he does:
* * * * *
His new book, Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement that Shattered the Party, is a must read if you want to get to the underlying truths about the radical right wing and how it's amassed so much power.I'll be working with Max and other sites to help promote his book. I've never been a big fan of pushing products on the site, but this is one totally worth pushing. You can buy a copy here and I'll be sure to keep BlogActive readers updated on new links and promotions around the book. Next week, I'll have a contest to give away a book here and we'll do some promotional work on PageOneQ and Raw Story.
To start with, here's an interview Max gave to Democracy Now... An interesting read/watch. In this video, Max's interview begins at the 20 minute mark.

If you prefer to read the interview, here is the intro... you can see the full text here.
Democracy Now Host Juan Gonzales: Fifty years ago, Republican President Dwight Eisenhower issued a warning against the rise of extremist movements within his own party. During his presidency, Eisenhower had endured attacks by Senator Joseph McCarthy, the radical right John Birch Society and others. In a 1959 letter to a World War II veteran, Eisenhower wrote, quote, “Many prominent officials, possessing no standing or expertness as they themselves claim it, attempt to further their own ideas or interests by resorting to statements more distinguished by stridency than by accuracy.”You can buy the book here.
Half a century later, in a summer of town hall disruptions and birth certificate controversies, what Eisenhower had warned against has come true: that the Republican Party has been captured by its extremist wing. At least that’s what award-winning journalist Max Blumenthal argues in his new book, Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement that Shattered the Party.
Max has a site up about the book here.

Our friends at WikiPedia
I don't know who did this. I love it nonetheless...André Bauer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
On Monday August 31st, 2009, Lt. Governor Bauer was accused of being a closeted gay man by the blogger Mike Rogers of gay activist website BlogActive.[2] Rogers claimed he has corroborated the story with men who have been intimate with Bauer. These allegations have been picked up by the local and national press.[3] [4] Bauer has denied the accusation."
Sunday, September 06, 2009
An explanation
From the Columbia Free Times:
"Everyone I’ve talked to thinks there is some connection to the governor," said State Sen. Larry Martin, R-Pickens, in a story on Politco.com.
But Rogers calls the claim that Sanford had anything to do with his post on Bauer is an "absolute untruth."
"I don’t know anyone in Mark Sanford’s office," Rogers told Free Times Sept. 3 while in a Washington, D.C. taxi cab. "I don’t know anybody on Mark Sanford’s political team. I don’t know anything about Mark Sanford except what’s been out there in the public and in the press."
Lies, lies, lies

"I'm just a girl who can't say no"
Bauer tells News 2 gay rumors are "silly"
"It’s a silly question."If you are unable to locate a Politician to English Dictionary, the first twenty seconds of this "Politician to English" translating machine:
"I don’t think it’s a proper question"
"I think it’s a little bit ridiculous and it’s sad that politics has gotten to that."

Politico reporter hangs up on me
I called Politico "reporter" Andy Barr (right) to ask why he would write an article about my work and then not call me to give me a chance to respond to the accusation that I orchestrated a "smear job." against Bauer.Barr's response, "If you don't know what I am talking about then we are done" and he then hung up the phone on me.
I don't know what Barr's hidden agenda is, but he surely has one.
From the article.
The timing of this smear campaign is obviously not a coincidence. Last week, Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer called on Governor Mark Sanford to resign, and last weekend, the House Republican Caucus decided almost unanimously to move forward to ask Gov. Sanford resign from office, under threat of impeachment,” Knotts, who is a close ally of Bauer, wrote in the letter.
“This attack was orchestrated on behalf of Mark Sanford, either directly or indirectly, and financially subsidized by him or one of his many ‘front-groups,’” he wrote.
How did I miss this?
From last month. While everyone screams about why I asked Bauer's people about his anti-gay work and his closet, I guess it's OK for the NYT to ask a cabinet secretary if she is a lesbian. She has never done anything anti-gay... No one has come forward and said they slept with Janet.
Old media. New rules. Pathetic.
Questions for Janet Napolitano:
Men don’t know what to make of women who choose to be single. Rumors of lesbianism have dogged women in politics like you, Condoleezza Rice and Ann Richards.
Right. I think the more people get to know a person, the less that becomes an issue. It’s interesting. In Arizona when I first ran for public office, that’s when the rumors were going around, and of course I’m sure they go around now.In 2002, during your gubernatorial campaign, you publicly denied rumors that you were a lesbian.
I just happen not to be married. Are you seeing anybody now?
Yes, my staff.

WOWSA!
Three of the most common questions I receive after I report on a closet case anti-gay politician are:"Mike, did the media pick up the story?"The answers are easy:
"Where is the mainstream media on this?"
"What's the deal with the press, do they ignore these closet cases?
"No."
"They are chicken."
"Yes, they do."

Well, one of those answers has changed. I am completely shocked that the South Carolina NBC affiliate mainstream media picked up the story!!!! AND WITH VIDEO!!!! WATCH THE VIDEO HERE!
Read the rest here.Bauer on defense after blog post makes bold claim
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Last week, South Carolina Lieutenant Governor Andre Bauer said he would sacrifice his political ambitions if Governor Mark Sanford resigns.Sanford refused, and now Bauer finds himself on defense. The issue? His private life.
Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer wants to talk about where he would take the state if Gov. Mark Sanford leaves office. And unless Sanford decides to step down soon, making Bauer his successor, the lieutenant governor will likely run for the number one job.
But since his remarks on the subject last week, Bauer has become a target -- first, accusations on a web site claiming that the 40-year-old bachelor is gay. [emphasis added]
That post has been picked up and repeated on other sites. We found at least 17 of them, all despite Bauer's previous denials. On Tuesday came strong condemnation from some of Bauer's closest advisers.
See the video here.
Do you believe that BlogActive has an effect on these right wing, anti-gay politicians? Then I need your help. It's the only way to be able to do this work. This work takes more than people think. Researchers, travel, time and so much more... Please consider tossing a few bucks at the work of this site... With that help, I can continue to work to move the messaging... messaging no one else has the guts to do! THANKS!
