My Video: The Ed Show on GOP hypocrisy

Is Anthony Weiner stupid? Yep.
Did he blow his chances to be mayor of the nation’s largest city? Yep.
Should he resign? I am not in a position to say.

The chair of the RNC — the one who replaced the closeted chair of the RNC — feels it’s his place to call out Weiner but when it comes time to asking about Ensign and Vitter he gets this whole “I’m not revisiting that, Ed” bullshit.  Let’s look at some of the differences:

Larry Craig tried to give a blowjob to a cop and got arrested in an airport and plead guilty to a crime
David Vitter hired illegally hired prostitutes to have sex with while he was wearing a diaper.
John Ensign had his mommy and daddy break the law to pay off a woman he had an affair with.
Mark Foley
hit on 16-year olds on line and in the US House page program.
Anthony Weiner did something stupid with consulting adults in their mid-20s

As they used to say on Sesame Street, “One of these things is not like the other.”

The different one of course, is Anthony Weiner. He broke no laws in his stupidity. But I’m not one of his constituents, I’m not his wife (what they pledged to each other I have no idea), nor am I one of the people who has any right to tell people what do to in bed. But I do know that while we focus on this man who did a stupid, but entirely legal. thing we are not focused on the GOP draconian budget plans and their social issue attacks.

I’ll leave it up to Representative Weiner and his constituents to decide what is next for him. I will say this: the GOP has absolutely no moral standing whatsoever to weigh in on this. I love it when the head of the GOP wants to come out (so to speak) swinging against Weiner, who broke no laws, while giving criminals like Larry Craig, David Vitter and John Ensign a pass.

Like most Republicans I know, even the gay ones, they are so desperate to find a counterpoint to the crap they do, they’ll ignore a criminal matter and abandon any principles they may have once had. They make it about people, we make it about principles.
